I have taught at my school since it opened it 1997. At that time, classrooms were not designed with the expectation that every student would have their own computer. Technology existed, but it was secondary to textbooks and paper. The physical layout of my classroom reflects that era.

Electrical outlets are located along the sides of the room, built into the walls. Student desks were meant to sit in the center of the classroom, far from power sources. With my classroom operating nearly 90% online, the issue was not classroom management. It was the everyday challenge of students forgetting chargers, losing them, or coming to class with dead computers.

That mismatch is where my organizational challenge began.

Teaching in a Space Designed for a Different Time

With outlets only along the perimeter of the room, charging cords ran across the floor and through walkways, creating tripping hazards. Students naturally gravitated toward the walls to charge devices, and chargers were often picked up accidentally at the end of class simply out of habit. As an organized teacher, I reached a point where something had to change. Available funds were already committed to yearly science consumables, leaving no budget to address the technology setup, and using personal money was not an option.
